Making cities fit for Green Deal Development – Impact Analysis

A team of Austrian and Bulgarian urban development, impact (focus GreenDeal) and IT experts is elaborating a training to strengthen the green skills of urban and rural development staff, including decision makers and investors. On 31.3.2023, 4pm CET the next pilot training on impact analysis will take place – free of charge and online.

In our changing world and marketplace, vocational trainings are needed that strengthen skills profiles in nnovative, inclusive, green thinking and competence. Ideally it integrates multi-stakeholder and multi-discipline participation, teaches visioning with impact in mind, to create lasting outputs based on shared societal values.

Holistic urban development pioneer Laura P. Spinadel (urbanmenus.com, BUSarchitektur, Austria), Sustainability and IT expert akaryon (akaryon.com, Austria),  and the Institute for Urban Planning (iup.bg, Bulgaria) team up with representatives of the target groups to deliver a practical training programme referring to the core values of the New European Green Deal.

Two major components are planned:

  • Green Deal training program – consisting of 3 trainings on (1) Green Deal & context (incl. taxonomy), (2) impact analysis and (3) participation
  • Interactive Green Deal Readiness Check – Determine skill level, gather inspiration and develop further

Take your chance to get a taste: Participate in our online taster training – “Green Deal Impact analysis” is available on March 31, 2023, 4pm CET. It addresses development stakeholders seeking to improve city areas in a future-proof way. Participants will find inspiration to integrate impact thinking (with reference to Green Deal guidelines). This, due to new regulations (taxonomy, sustainable finance, …), becomes more and more import to find financing for the realization of such projects.

Interested parties are also invited to complete an online Green Deal Fit survey. The results help the team to better adapt the (future) offers of the educational programme to target groups’ needs and detect synergies for cooperation. The project, co-funded with European subsidies (ERASMUS+) started in May 2022 and will go on until January 2024. It builds upon the innovation URBAN MENUS, providing process know how and a web-based 3D software for participatory & impact-oriented urban planning.

About URBAN MENUS

URBAN MENUS is a process methodology and a software for participatory and impact-oriented development of urban planning visions with an integrated smart city platform to connect people who want to make a difference with their products and services.

Various actors including citizens can use URBAN MENUS to develop, walk through and analyze urban planning visions. The area of application is the critical phase of preliminary planning, in which it is first necessary to bring together partially divergent needs and to create a basis signed by all for the subsequent detailed planning.

The idea for the tool was born during the master planning for the new campus of Vienna University of Economics and Business (2008-2015) which transformed a previous demolition area in a place combining economical, ecological and social advantages and attracts students and professionals as  well as people who spend their free time here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_MKrJ0TIic.

Austrian funding agencies supported the development of URBAN MENUS. A global international preliminary study in 2020/2021 and a pilot project in India 2021/2022, among other countries, were already conducted. urbanmenus.com

URBAN MENUS comes with a complementary consulting portfolio.

About the initiator

The idea for URBAN MENUS goes back to Laura P. Spinadel, an Austrian-Argentinean architect, urban planner, author, educator and head of the architectural firm BUSarchitektur and BOA büro für offensive aleatorik in Vienna.

As a pioneer of holistic architecture, Laura P. Spinadel has been working for a long time on the democratization of urban planning processes in a multidisciplinary way, dealing with how to design visioning processes in such a way that as many as possible of those whom a completed project affects are also involved in its creation. An essential tool: visualization not only of the appearance, but also of the impact.
